This scholarship is designed to help forcibly displaced women achieve their educational goals by helping remove of one of the biggest barriers to a degree or certificate - the cost of tuition. 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. Women who are refugees, asylees, and other displaced people, (or their American-born daughters, age 25 and under) as well as women DACA recipients and undocumented women, who wish to pursue education or technical/ certification training through a qualified program, are eligible to apply.

    • Examples of qualified programs include but are not limited to GED, GRE, ESL, college, or technical training.

    • Technical training includes but is not limited to: healthcare assistant, computer information systems, pharmacy technician, medical, massage therapy, criminal justice, and paralegal.  

  2. Scholarship can be used to cover tuition for upcoming educational credits only (i.e. for those seeking college/university assistance, this would mean Spring and Summer 2024 semesters).

  3. Institution must be a two or four-year accredited public nonprofit college, university, or vocational/technical school located in the state of Utah. Awards will not be made for students attending a for-profit institution.

  4. Applicants must have already completed at least one term (semester) of of post-secondary training and have a transcript showing a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

PROCESS

 

  • Please be prepared to submit the entire application at one time, including transcripts and two letters of recommendation. Applications which do not include transcripts or recommendation letters will not be reviewed.

  • Women of the World will evaluate applications on a rolling basis.

  • If applicants pass the initial review, they then must be available for an interview, either virtually or in-person.

  • The number of scholarships WoW is able to distribute is based on the number of applicants and the size of their requests. Therefore, we encourage applicants to apply as soon as they are able.

 Mountainland Tech Presidential Scholarship for Forcibly Displaced Women

Women of the World has partnered with Mountainland Technical College to offer two full-ride scholarships for forcibly displaced women to complete any technical training program offered by MTech. A full list of technical training programs offered by MTech can be found here:   https://mtec.edu/programs/

 

The deadline to apply for the 2023 Presidential Scholarship has is rolling, so awardees will be announced as they are reviewed and determined. Scholarship recipients will also be recognized at the WoW Annual Celebration of Success in December.
