Women of the World is proud to celebrate women on International Women’s Day and is sponsoring a Healthy Women’s Walk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, 5 March 2011 at Liberty Park at 700E and 1300S.Meet us at the Rice Terrace Pavilion and walk around the park with women from all over the world and from all walks of life.International Women’s Day is the story of ordinary women as the makers of history, it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men.In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war, during the French Revolution, Parisian women called for Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Clara Zetkin, leader of the women’s office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany forwarded the idea of an International Women’s Day in 1911. This is the 100 year anniversary of International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrating the achievements of women, a celebration of their intelligence, their strengths, courage, and the beauty of women.
